Testimonials

"My daughter, Kaila, has attended WSOD since its inception in 1997. It has been a great privilege to be part of a school where all the instructors are very caring and extremely dedicated to their students. Joanne Carey’s devotion to the art of dance has made the school a huge success and all the students adore her. Her commitment to the community is commendable and is evident through fundraising, offering a work study program and just this year introducing a “Little Stars” program for disabled children. The recitals are comparable to a professional production and leaves the audience feeling very proud to witness the cultivation of the dancers’ skills year after year. WSOD is a very special place and we are so happy to be a part of it." - Diane Starita

Buggé Ballet and Westfield School of Dance combine talents for their second annual summer intensive residency program and new sizzling summer workshop. Buggé Ballet and Westfield School of Dance are committed to providing quality dance education, training the performers of tomorrow. This exciting program will utilize the professional dancers of Buggé Ballet as educators to students in the New Jersey community. Accepted dancers will participate in a daily technique class teaching a variety of styles including ballet, modern, contemporary, and jazz. Students will learn classical and contemporary repertory, participate in discussions focused around nutrition and stage make up, and learn somatic practices such as yoga and Elemental Body Alignment System. A new summer workshop brings in artists from famous NYC shows to teach master classes, have a mock audition and talk with the students about life as a professional dancer. Participants may choose from two, three or four-week sessions plus the workshop and will appear in a weekly in-studio showing.

Buggé Ballet is a critically acclaimed ballet company based in New York City/New Jersey and led by founding artistic director Nicole Buggé. Called "Fresh…charming…a wonderful articulation of Americana." by Edward Villella, the company has been featured on PBS in WHYY's Friday Arts series as a winner in Rider University's inaugural Emerging Choreographers Competition. Buggé Ballet performed internationally at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland and presented multiple commissioned works at Lincoln Center and with One World Symphony in New York City. Buggé Ballet toured in Virginia, Maryland for our annual Nutcracker production, has been part of the curated NuDance festival, and Breaking Glass: The Emerging Female Choreographers Project. Additionally, Buggé Ballet has performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Bryant Park, The Ailey Citigroup Theater, NYC Fashion Week, and at Dixon Place in New York City.

At Westfield School of Dance, students study not only technique, but the art of dance as well. Under the direction of Joanne Carey, since 1998, WSOD's philosophy is to educate and enhance the "dancer" in each individual. WSOD is a place where you can "Dance with all your Heart!" whether a beginner or an aspiring professional. Germaine Trabert, of New Jersey State Council on the Arts, hailed the studio and team of teachers on the tremendous job in promoting the art of dance, giving young people the opportunity to experience and appreciate the life-long art of dance, nurturing the very skills, motivations, and attitudes that will make dancers not just outstanding performers, but also successful individuals who will carry teamwork and self-confidence into every area of their lives.
